St. Mary’s Faith Formation Program for Confirmation
Our Confirmation Program begins when your child enters 7th grade. During this year, candidates enter our “Doves” group. Together the candidates deepen their relationship with Jesus and begin to develop a better understanding of what it means to be Catholic and to belong to the Church.
In your child’s second year as a Confirmation candidate, 8th grade, they will enter our “Evangelists” group and will prepare to receive The Sacrament of Confirmation. This year is so special as they learn more about the Gifts and Fruits of the Holy Spirit, The Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy, Social Justice, their role as Catholics in their church, and further solidify their relationship with Jesus and his Church.
Unless your child is attending a Catholic school, two preparation years are required to receive a sacrament.
Seventh year candidates will meet with their catechist every possible week based on the public school calendar on either Sundays or Mondays.
Eighth year candidates will meet with their catechist on designated Sundays from 9:30 – 10:50 am once or twice a month during the school year. All candidates will be required to attend the 11:00 mass with their group during this year.
Masses at St. Mary’s are held on Saturdays at 5:00, Sundays at 8:30 and 11:00 and all families are encouraged to attend but for the Confirmation Program, there is more of an urgency as candidates will be receiving a sacrament. The Catechism of the Catholic Church (1997) lists five precepts as the very least a Catholic can do to practice their faith: to attend Mass on Sundays and Feasts of Obligation; to go to confession at least once a year; to receive Communion during the Easter season; to keep holy the Feasts of Obligation; and to observe the days of fasting and abstinence.
