In the early Church, the apostles went about proclaiming the Good News that Jesus is the Christ, the One who is to come. There were many adults who gathered around them and heard their message and believed. They then expressed the desire to be baptized, and to receive the fullness of the gifts of the Holy Spirit. At that time, the candidates were baptized, confirmed, and received the Eucharist all at the same time. From the very beginning, these were adult sacraments initiating them into the Roman Catholic Church.
Over the centuries, infant baptism became the focus in the Church for different reasons, and Confirmation and Eucharist were sacraments not received until they reached the age of reason; however, it is the decision of the Bishop of the diocese as to what age the candidate is to be confirmed in his diocese.
Those who are 18 years of age or older, who for whatever reason, have not received the sacrament of confirmation and desire to do so, are invited to call Fr. Joe 201-768-7565 to discuss your desire to prepare for the receiving of the sacrament.
